Freedom as I see it.

conciousness of space, time and self-being |
Conciousness of space begins early, probably in first minutes of life when a toddler sees people and things with relation in an expanse. This remains unchanged till some important experiences occur: the sea, flight, swimming, looking through telescope into stars, microscope images, pitch darkness. According to how particular human is sensitive and reflexive he remains toddler or becomes more aware of. But this is not really conciousness; it begins when you start REALLY to think about the space. About, that the matter is built in 99% of nothing, that we cannot really feel how empty is the universe, how deep is the Earth, how many parallel worlds are created in a room full of humans and that not every detail comes across...is everything you see real, do other humans exist. Even worse is understanding the matter of time. Could you imagine any human body in a snapshot or model, that takes into consideration the time dimension? How human being is spread in the space during the life? What was before big-bang? Why the same hour seems be endless while waiting and a moment when making love? What is the meaning of one million years? and a billion? How could you stress days passed by yourself? I don't think one can answer above question. But thinking about them leads to better understanding of the world and builds up the imagination. The conciousness of self-being is another story. Almost every human has his own self, something undefinable and unique. It begins probably when you start sense the body of mother, then the outside world, see your reflection in the mirror, ask 'who I am', try to imagine yourself from the outside...but most often humans are not conciously aware of themselves, both in external as well as internal meaning. Why? Because it needs an vivid and severe imagination. Thoughful imagination, I'd say.
The imagination is intelligence. |

An average human usually puts himself into the center of all perception regarding space, time and his own being. This is matter of ego and natural attributes of the brain. Did you heard your own voice recorded by a mic and remember the astonishment of your own voice? Yes, this is the difference between ego- and exocentric perception. There's no good way to become exocentric view of reality except thinking, putting questions, wonder - and try to imagine something, that is inapprehensible and cannot be explained by words. What for? Imagine, you're born in a big cube. You see only floor, roof and four walls are out of your reach. No other humans, no outer space, everything white including you, clean mind, only positive impulses from senses, no history. Got it? May you feel free? Of course yes. But, is this real freedom? Even if you cannot reach the end of the cube? I don't think so. This needs external view, even imagined. You only need your brain, knowledge, sensitivity and reflexivity; no instructions. Maybe next calypso could help. |

"The drink you're about to enjoy is extremely hot!" - such warnings are present on coffee cups since McDonald introduced that after loss in the lawsuit with its customer few decades ago. Hot coffee? Damn it, if I buy a coffee, I expect I receive a cup of hot liquid! Maybe it is a reasonable business reaction on stupid confess or exception of a casual judgement system. But this is good exemplification of a more common phenomenon. People want to improve their environment even if it is stupid or it has wrong consequences, where the worst could be changing human's life into safe and effective procedure. The result is enslavement of course, information overload, loss of self-control, dimmed instincts and so on. Somebody unknown is thinking instead of a human, what for? Why? It may seem, that those stupid trifles are not worth of your attention. But if you perceive the number of them you may become wonder-struck. If you will rely on warnings and helpful signboards, your mind will, bit by bit, become the consistency of pudding. This process is well known in the zoo. |

and the fear to rule them all |
Looking deeply into history of humankind, the fear was always a method of managing people. The method is well proven then, and is based on low-level instinct that causes people to avoid danger. Instincts are pretty easy to understand by analysis of animal behaviour, because social related issues dim the picture. So - analyzing the fear and freedom of the animal we discover the Zoo paradox: animals in the Zoo feel happy in general, because they have only little fear when comparing to natural environment. But their audience sees bars, ward, aquarium - that are symbols of enslavement! Think then back about humans: the authorities who rule humans, use the same instinct. Fear of God, army, poverty, police, tortures, even such nonsense like bad destiny after death, Jews, terrorists, illness, famine - all of this was used efficiently to rule humans. Why is that working so? Because this instinct is very high in hierarchy of all instinct (just after hunger, thirst, reactions against pain), remaining very little aware to most people. Governments, churches, bosses - will always use the fear, because it's efficient and could be reached very easily. But it doesn't mean you may not extend your freedom in such relations, it could be easier as you think. Do not fear. |

A vital part of any civilization is a kind of protection system, that affects freedom of an individual. Law, police, army, regulations, jails, contracts, norms, morality, social rules, hedges, psychiatric hospitals... Why humans create it? Is it really needed by the civilization? Frankly speaking, not. These are temporary solutions of past ages or, I'd rather say, past orders. Enslaved people were ruled by the fear of an enemy. But the number of enemies, as well as their virulence is decreasing as the wealth, knowledge and neighbourhood conciousness is growing. Of course it is. Probably, when writing this calypso, I'm not developed enough, to imagine there is no police, no law, no justice. The civilization development is obvious and average level of a freedom as well. It means, that keeping protection as little as possible, as basic freedoms are not threatened, as long we have aggresive perverts and groundless violence, the rule "your freedom ends as my begins" is not bad rule. And where's the point? The point is, the freedom is growing, as the civilization is developing. Every development means trying new solutions, breaking rules, introducing new ideas, new orders. Even if some ways have dead ends, its not the reason of not trying them! |
