Freedom as I see it.
Expression of humans feelings and thoughts is real problem to many individuals. Humankind developed many words, that describe this problem: jitters, shyness, shame, self-control, restraint, modesty. Children do shame if they have to show their paintings or to sing; adults smother laughs, try to not scream. Youngster has a problem to approach beautiful girl and talk to her; little boy says to mummy "do not kiss me in the presence of my colleagues" and a girl is trying to be modest at any price and in every situation.
But the expression itself is nothing wrong. Furthermore, Internet is full of individual expressions of humans: writing, photos, movies, cartoons, forums and other content, that is a result of individual performance and a will to share it. Humans except comments and acceptance; some of them have to face rejection, some of them are succesful; thousands of them break their own taboos and shames, usually being plucked up by others and covered behind quasi-anonimity. The anonimity is very often a key for breaking the fear of sharing expression, but there are many others. Only few could do the very first step toward expressing themselves being constrained only by creativeness and imagination.
Expresssion is a kind of very personal freedom, oriented to others. And there's nothing to fear.

"Two million of Poles were killed by Germans during 2nd World War in concentration camps" seems to be worse than any imagineable reality, but its worse than a lie too. Such a statement is clinically dehumanized and is cheating the imagination. "During war, yes, it's bad time I guess, soldiers do bad things, and there are maniacs, yes, it scares me" is a typical reaction.
Lets think differently: once upon a time, during XX century, two millions of humans were killed by their neighbours, without any vital reason, just because one told them they are worse than we are". Huh? Got it? Many questions arise, imagination starts to create an picture of chubby baker's son, who is torturing blankly a caustic librarian living next door, yes, this beautiful, young face with big, brown eyes. "Just because one told him to do that".
The final question is "why?". Not why he did it, it was explained many times, how it works. The question is, why humans do cheat with themselves when they have to face the scaring reality, that is caused by neighbours.
Probably beacuse of fear. Nazi enormity was a sum of apparently innocent faults of very decent society members, driven by few psychopaths. At the beginning there was no terror, the fear was rather related to society conformity. That created common consent to aggression in thoughts, then in words, then in newspapers and finally - in physical sphere. |

Humans do not accept, that their life, world they live in, all humankind achievements, their own history - that means everything what is really important - has no meaning at the end of day.
Dealing with this fear, since thousands years, remains an important driver of arts, religion, philosophy, politics and even reproduction.
If there is something behind, its great. That means, humankind is not only a strange form of protein. The Great Creator has his own plans, humans are just puppies in his game, don't worry then.
If there's really nothing behind, it doesn't matter what will happen. It only may matter, what a human - or the whole humankind - could leave for future generations or civilizations. That is knowledge, art and information.
A very special kind of information is genetic material, that is in fact a great book of knowledge gathered and updated every day since a protein became life.

First calypso about freedom mentioned, one of first known written representations of the notion "freedom" was sumerian "ama gi", that is translated into "back to the mother". Sumerian civilization extincted three thousands year ago, however this early definition of a freedom is still much more insightful, than it seems to be. Humans are not aware of the little child state, because their brains are designed in a manner, that they forget all feelings from early childhood. And looking at them from the position of loving parent is dimmed by warm feelings and nothing
How does it work, then?
Simple relations, pure feelings, understandable environment, simplified but intense sensing, no socialization burden, unconsciousness of world complexity, no religion, short-term sight - this is, how the child's world looks like. Little children behave, like they were designed to process feelings (and milk, too). They change the mood surprisingly, without thinking, just based on sensing the acting or reacting world. It doesn't mean, this simplicity is free of fears, however, there's always someone, who is demolishing and crushing to dust all fears, in a second, and beams all positive feelings of warmth, love and safety: mother. The child folded in mums arms is feeling free, and that was probably the keen observation of ancient Sumerians.
As human grows, the world becomes more and more complex while the remedy is working less and less effective. Real freedom of an individual is misunderstood then, mixed with not irrelevant ideas like free will, patriotism, liberty, dignity or external points of view; this meaningful notion is roughly simplified to smart slogans within small-talks or claimed on billboards. This is why freedom needs enlightenment and understanding. Only one assumption has to be made here: the freedom is a state of mind. |

The state of being solitary scares many humans. But only if they aren't lonely at the moment.
In fact, humans are not asocial by design, so the prolonged solitue is rather a choose, and not the fate.
Nevertheless human's mind is confusing most probable reality with imagined, prolonged solitude created by anxiety related to loneliness and unknown.
How it's working?
"I do not want being alone" says herd instinct.
"I do fear of unknown" accompanies mob conformity worm.
"No one wants me" whispers low self-respect worse part of ego.
These three forces support each other and gaining solitude up to the dread level. But a dread is like back seat driver, that causes the worst decisions are taken. Decisions which aim is just conserving by all means the current world, even if it's not worth of that.
The time wasted on observation of prolonged collapse of the world is best time for change, self development, a chance to focus on something, that would rebuild a new, better reality. |
